The Christmas Oratorio is one of the best examples of parody (reworking previous compositions) music has given us. Based on some previous cantatas, Bach creates the height of Protestant liturgy with immaculate cohesion and overwhelming religious force, in which we learn of the birth of Jesus through to the adoration of the Magi, including sublime moments of reflection, recollection and vibrant joy.
