Ariadne auf Naxos
The season begins with an own production of Auditorio de Tenerife: the opera in a prologue and one act Ariadne auf Naxos, by Richard Strauss, with a libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, a common feature of the German composer's creations. This meta-theatre or mise en abyme is based on the mythological story of Ariadne, who was abandoned by her lover Theseus on the Greek island Naxos shortly after helping him to defeat the minotaur. Commedia dell'arte characters led by Zerbinette will encourage the princess, who ends up meeting the god Bacchus.
