The programme includes works by Bach, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, and Schumann
The Auditorio de Tenerife will present, next Tuesday (April 29) at 7.30 p.m. in the Chamber Hall, a concert by Russian pianist Sergey Belyavsky, making his debut on the Island after winning the inaugural Málaga International Piano Competition last year. For his first performance in Tenerife, the musician will offer a programme featuring works by Bach, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, and Schumann.
Born in Russia 31 years ago, Belyavsky will give a recital whose first half opens with Bach’s 12 Variations on La Folie d’Espagne, followed by Liszt’s Rhapsodie Espagnole and Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli. The concert’s second half features two works: Vers la flamme by Alexander Scriabin and Kreisleriana, Op. 16 by Robert Schumann.
Praised as a ‘powerhouse of a player’ (Limelight Magazine), pianist Sergey Belyavsky is known for his vast and diverse repertoire, emphasising compositions from the 19th and 20th centuries. He is described as demonstrating ‘an extraordinary expressive intelligence’ (Bachtrack) and has been called one of the best pianists in the world today.
The Russian pianist received widespread recognition after winning prizes at numerous international competitions, including the Gina Bachauer International Artists Competition, the Budapest Liszt Competition, the Maria Canals Competition, the Premio José Iturbi, the Paderewski Bydgoszcz Competition, and the Santa Cecilia International Piano Competition. Most recently, in addition to his success in Málaga, he was awarded the Second and Audience prizes at the 76th Geneva International Music Competition.
He has performed as a soloist in such venues as Victoria Hall (Geneva), Abravanel Hall (Salt Lake City), the Gewandhaus (Leipzig), Carnegie Hall (New York City), Sala Suggia at Casa da Música (Porto), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Henri Le Boeuf Hall at BOZAR (Brussels), the Palau de la Música Catalana and L’Auditori (Barcelona), and the Auditorio Edgar Neville (Málaga).
Concerto highlights include appearances with internationally acclaimed orchestras such as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, the Daegu Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfonica del Valles, the Utah Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonie der Nationen, and the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra. Belyavsky has released four solo CDs, most recently of Schubert and Liszt’s music, The Wanderer, on the KNS Classical label.
