Registration is now open for participation in this initiative with music and wellbeing, which begins in September.

The Educational and Social Affairs Department of the Auditorio de Tenerife launches its 2025–26 season with a new project: ‘Coro Canguro’. An artistic and musical initiative for families with children, from newborn infants to toddlers of up to two years of age, to take part in sessions with instrumental music, corporeal dynamics and singing. The programme is to take place in the Auditorio in sessions held between September and December free of charge for participating families, though places are limited.

Coro Canguro is based on the benefits of music, voice, movement and creative expression. It aims to foster a healthy environment of growth for the infants and their adults by encouraging creative and entertaining experiences through structured sessions of choir singing, recording sessions, workshops and concerts that put the spotlight on artists and families.

The regional minister of Culture, José Carlos Acha, explained that ‘Coro Canguro is all about enjoyment, wellbeing and connection’. He added, ‘With this initiative for families with infants, we are promoting free access to culture for our citizens practically from their birth’. In relation to other goals of the project, he said, ‘We wish to take part in international networks in matters of infancy, art and cultural rights, working together to heighten our conscientiousness and commitment’.

Coro Canguro takes place through a growing network of choruses throughout Spain. Using a special methodology created by ‘Grandes Oyentes’, families, artists and musicians of different genres are gathered together.

The programme is available to families (parents, caregivers and families) with children, from newborn infants to toddlers of up to two years of age, as it seeks to work with children who have not yet learned to walk and with pregnant women who are expecting to give birth after the project’s last event (from December onwards). Admission is limited to two adults per infant. Families with two infants or with older siblings or with one infant and a pregnancy may attend, with the sole limitation of one adult per infant or child. You needn’t be a musician, know how to sing or be musically skilled to take part in Coro Canguro.

Reservations are being accepted through an application form available on the ‘Coro Canguro’ webpage, accessible through Auditorio’s website and the section on its Educational and Social Affairs Department: www.auditoriodetenerife.com. Once the application has been accepted, participating families shall be provided with the musical material of the Coro Canguro methodology for the sessions. It is recommended that families bring their infant carriers or baby slings.

The first year of Coro Canguro Tenerife shall include 10 chorus sessions from 26 September to early December and a final concert with artists and guest musicians. Most of the sessions are to be held on Fridays in the last quarter of 2025. The sessions are scheduled for the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th of October; the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th of November; and in December, a dress rehearsal will be held on Thursday the 4th ahead of the final concert on Friday the 5th.

The Educational and Social Department of the Auditorio de Tenerife is associated with RESEO European Network for Opera, Dance and Music Education and the Spanish Network of Organisers of Educational Concerts (ROCE). The department was created to bring arts and creative processes to all citizens, with a particular focus on school pupils and people at risk of social exclusion.

One of the objectives is to nurture the relationship between artistic and cultural activities and how they are conveyed to society and to encourage space for building a relationship between art and people. Its main idea is for art to make an unquestionable contribution to social well-being, the recognition of individual and collective identity, training, and critical thinking needed for mature democratic social coexistence.
