Sarah Kim

Born in Germany, Sarah Kim is an Australian organist of Korean origin, now based in Paris. She began studying music (piano and violin) at an early age in Cologne, and attended her first organ classes with Miriam Gaydon at the age of 11 in Sydney. After finishing secondary school, she studied organ with Philip Swanton at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she earned a degree in musical interpretation with first-class honours and the Sydney University Medal. While studying at the Conservatoire, Sarah held a number of organ scholarships at the University of Sydney, St Paul’s College and St James’ Anglican Church. She has performed with a wide range of ensembles, including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Sydney Chamber Choir, and has appeared as a soloist in major venues such as Sydney, Perth and Melbourne Town Halls and the Sydney Opera House. After completing her studies, Sarah was awarded a travelling scholarship from the University of Sydney, becoming the first Australian organist to be admitted to the Cycle de Perfectionnement and the postgraduate course at the Paris Conservatoire, where she studied with Olivier Latry and Michel Bouvard. She later continued her training at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Wolfgang Zerer, Andrea Marcon, Lorenzo Ghielmi and Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, earning a specialised Master’s degree in early music. ...Winner of international organ competitions in Sydney, Newcastle and Paris, Sarah has given masterclasses at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Oundle International Summer Academy (UK). She has appeared in distinguished venues including Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Chapel of Versailles, the Vienna Musikverein and the Berlin Philharmonie. Sarah has appeared as a soloist with the Swedish Baroque Orchestra, the Oxford Band of Instruments and the Orchestre de Bordeaux, and has given duo performances across Italy and in Paris with Jean Guillou. She performs regularly with the Paris-based ensemble Le Balcon and the Orchestre National de France, and is currently organist of the Oratoire du Louvre in Paris.
