The Canary Islands representative in the national final will be selected on Saturday from among the eight participants from the Canary Islands conservatories.
This Saturday, November 22, at 4 p.m., the Chamber Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife will host the Canaries Regional Phase of the 24th Intercentros Melómano. This regional competition for music students will select the Canary Islands’ representative to compete for the Soloists’ Interpretation Award in the Professional Degree category. Entry is free until full capacity is reached.
The auditions will involve pupils from the professional conservatoires of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in different instrumental specialities: percussion, tuba, clarinet, cello, guitar, saxophone, and piano. With the collaboration of the Auditorio de Tenerife, the event will feature performances lasting a maximum of 15 minutes with a freely chosen repertoire. After the performances, the jury will retire to deliberate and will subsequently award the diplomas and announce the winner.
The participants are Alejandro Barrabí and Miguel Mira on percussion; Jorge Ojeda on tuba; Teo Rivero on clarinet; Ciro Moreno on cello; Diego Bencomo on guitar; Sarah Hiraldo on saxophone; and Violeta Muñoz on piano. The jury will be made up of composer Miguel Ángel Linares, the technical director of the Sinfónica de Tenerife, Daniel Broncano, and pianist Inmaculada Marrero.
The first person classified will represent the Canary Islands during the final phase of the competition, which will take place on December 7 in the Auditorium of the Council of Alicante (ADDA). The Intercentros Melómano competition is an initiative by the Fundación Orfeo, created in 2002 to encourage pupils from music conservatoires to actively participate in professional competitions.
