International entity Certificado ODS certifies the venue's commitment to the environment, society and governance
The Auditorio de Tenerife has consolidated its commitment to sustainability with a new certificate issued by the international entity Certificado ODS, which verifies its rigour in environmental, social, and governance matters. After a process spanning over a year and an audit, the venue’s leadership and sustainability have been certified, constituting a strategic step forward for the cultural institution of the Tenerife Island Council.
Councillor for Cultural Affairs and President of Auditorio de Tenerife José Carlos Acha accepted the certificate from Certificado ODS Director María José Gil-Delgado. The certificate issued by the entity is level 3-advanced, with a score of 71.5 out of 100 points under the ESGrade methodology and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria. It is a guarantee of confidence for citizens and for the artists and companies that collaborate with the Auditorio.
The certificate verifies the sustainability of the building as a venue and as a company, with 27 verified targets of the 13 Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030. It adds to the dozen certificates already obtained by Auditorio de Tenerife which reflect the commitment of the public-sector company.
José Carlos Acha explained, ‘Meeting the certification requirements is a tremendously difficult task, and the staff of Auditorio de Tenerife has had the commitment to achieve this’. The councillor expressed his satisfaction and acknowledged that ‘we are on our way to seeing other institutions of the Tenerife Island Council achieve the same level as the auditorium’.
Certificado ODS Director María José Gil-Delgado travelled to the island specifically to deliver the certificate. ‘The Auditorio is close to achieving level 4, the highest certification, as it not only meets our requirements but also implements robust, verifiable policies addressing environmental, social, and governance issues. This demonstrates a level of seriousness and responsibility that is rare among cultural institutions, she said. In conclusion, she added, ‘The Auditorio was already an architectural point of reference, and now it has achieved a similar status insofar as sustainability. It aspires to become a driver of cultural and creative development in the archipelago; a laboratory for innovation in the performing arts and education; a symbol of openness and connection to the world’.
Certificado ODS is an international entity empowered by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (CIFAL Malaga-UNITAR) to promote and certify a culture of sustainability, the values of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG criteria through training courses and certification programmes.
The ESGrade programme offers a global, strategic perspective on how sustainability can benefit organisations, strengthen partnerships, and support corporate strategies focused on sustainable culture. Executives must understand environmental governance to implement ESG indicators and align company objectives with Sustainable Development Goals to address current global challenges.
