Hoy tengo algo que hacer
Synopsis
Auditorio de Tenerife presents in its La Salita hall Hoy tengo algo que hacer (Today I have something to do), a production of Teatro del Barrio directed by Pablo Rosal and starring Luis Bermejo.
The work explores the misadventures of a modern-day hero who, in classic fashion, ventures from home to uncover the meaning of having a job—something that provides structure and purpose. Far from being an anecdotal or elementary subject matter—or perhaps precisely because of the latter—, we are struck by the rich potential of looking more closely at this absolutely mundane phenomenon that permeates and underpins the human psyche. All personalities are built on the basis of having something to do. The story of each person in relation to others is constructed on a foundation comprised of the value and meaning that we assign to ‘something to do’ and at an even more basic level. The days, weeks and years of our lives pass very slowly, imploring us to fill them; to give them structure and direction.
We need to embrace ‘something to do’ to imbue our lives with meaning and substance. Yet, only clowns are able to take a light-hearted approach to this challenge. Clowns, with their foundational and inherent insubstantiality, their distance from any degree of certainty or assuredness and their boundless curiosity and surprise, allow us participate in this research, that aims to reveal honestly and unironically the motivation and occupations that shape the proud and tormented thing we call human life.
The show delivers a fast-paced, witty story with abundant encounters, and occurrences. It proposes a comical and endlessly poetic feast led by the great and powerful Luis Bermejo, the proper man for this job. His unique blend of suggestion, charm and comic talent are the perfect trampoline to make this happen.
There will be a discussion with the audience after the performance on Friday 27, moderated by students from the Canary Islands School of Acting, thanks to a collaboration agreement between this institution and the Tenerife Auditorium.
