Histrión Teatro
Company
Formed in Granada in 1994, the troupe has since produced 23 shows. Today, Histrión tries to forge ahead in an approach that acknowledges two basic truths: the script as a structural element and acting as a support for emotions that connect with the public. Our history is marked by three decisive moments. First, in 2010, we staged ‘Del maravilloso mundo de los animales: los corderos’ by Daniel Veronese, reflecting our interest in socially conscious theatre. Building on this, in 2016, ‘Juana, la reina que no quiso reinar’ proved to be one of the year’s best shows, and Gema Matarranz was nominated for a MAX award as best female lead. The following year, Juan Carlos Rubio premiered ‘Lorca, la correspondencia personal’, an intimate and poetic work, the staging of which proved to be one of our best. This production was awarded the best show at the Southern Spain Theatre Fair in Palma del Río and, again, the best adapted work at the 2018 Lorca Awards. Continuing this trajectory, in 2018 Histrión Teatro premiered ‘La Isla’ with playwright and director Juan Carlos Rubio, followed by ‘El Mueble (o todas esas cosas que nunca nos diremos)’ in 2020, which was staged at the height of the pandemic. Most recently, in 2023, we premiered ‘NEVENKA’ with playwright and director María Goiricelaya. At present, the troupe is immersed in the preproduction of its new productions: ‘DYSPHORIA’, with playwright and director María Goiricelaya, set to premiere in June 2025; and ‘Ana por Ana. Barroco a compás Flamenco’, by Paula Rodriguez, which is to premiere at the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival on 18 July 2025.
