ˋEl jardín de lo imposibleˊ, a piano programme with works by Poulenc, Ligeti, Milhaud and Ravel, is the season's last piano recital

The Auditorio de Tenerife presents a recital by the Dúo del Valle, comprising brothers Víctor and Luis del Valle, who will interpret the programme El jardín de lo imposible (The Garden of the Impossible) on two pianos. As the final piano concert of the season, the event will be held on Tuesday (June 2) at 7.30 p.m. in the Chamber Hall.

El jardín de lo imposible (The Garden of the Impossible) invites us to move beyond reality and explore a space where imagination becomes sound, the piano splits in two, and music turns into play, poetry, and wonder.

The programme starts with Francis Poulenc and his Sonata for Piano Four-Hands, FP 8. Next is György Ligeti, the absolute master of the unexpected. His four-hand piano pieces blend dance, contrapuntal study, and rhythmic complexity. Ligeti mixes these with subtle irony. Here, tradition twists and expands, like a vine growing unpredictably.

Francis Poulenc returns in the programme, capturing a playful and human spirit. In his Sonata and in L’embarquement pour Cythère and Capriccio, he shows both light-heartedness and some melancholy. Mischief appears and disappears. Poulenc bridges popular and refined styles, marked by a French blend of grace and wit.

The festive energy of Darius Milhaud’s Scaramouche bursts forth like a masquerade full of colour, movement and infectious rhythm: street theatre that opens up to the audience and invites them to participate. Then, Maurice Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye invites us to rediscover a sense of wonder and to appreciate beauty with a fresh perspective. Its pages discover pure magic, with delicate and mysterious qualities that set the stage for La Valse, which transforms dance into a powerful experience and reminds us that even in moments of beauty, chaos may be present.

After their triumph at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition (Munich, 2005), the brothers Víctor and Luis del Valle were quickly recognised as one of the most brilliant chamber-music ensembles in Europe. Since then, they have forged a solid international career.

They have played on renowned stages worldwide. Some venues include the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and Barcelona’s Palau de la Música de Catalunya and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Other notable locations are the Auditorio Dom Musiki in Moscow, Herkulessaal and Gasteig in Munich, Liederhalle in Stuttgart, Congress Centrum in Hannover, Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris, Teatro Nacional in Panama, Teatro Metropolitano de Medellín in Colombia, and Seoul Ilshin Hall in South Korea.

Numerous international juries have praised their work as a duo. In addition to taking top honours at the ARD competition in Munich, they were awarded at the Concours Européen Musiques d’Ensemble (Paris) and the Dranoff International Two Piano Competition in Miami (USA).

In addition, they won the Silver Medal at the Primer Palau competition organised by Palau de la Música de Cataluña. They were also declared winners and awarded a special prize for the best Mozart performance at the Bialystok International Piano Duo Competition (Poland) and were chosen for the audience award at the Central European Music Festival (Žilina, Slovakia), which features the winners of the most relevant international competitions, such as the Queen Elisabeth Competition and the Tchaikovsky Competition, among others.

Currently, Víctor and Luis combine their artistic activities with their teaching careers at the Higher Conservatory of Music in Málaga and the Conservatory of Music Teresa Berganza in Madrid. Both are frequently invited to give piano and chamber music masterclasses in Spain and abroad.
