Terra do fogo
Synopsis
Auditorio de Tenerife has scheduled in its La Salita hall Terra do fogo, by the theatre company Hotel Europa. The show will be performed in Portuguese with Spanish overtitles.
After the performance on Saturday (June 13), students from the Canary Islands Acting School will moderate a public talk as part of the collaboration agreement with the Auditorio de Tenerife.
The programme’s objective is threefold: to analyse the current state of Portuguese forests, to document the circumstances of people and the forests ravaged by fires in recent years in Portugal and other southern European countries, and to develop a comparative understanding of this reality. Do southern Europe’s forests burn in the same way? How are forest fires handled in Portugal and in the rest of Europe?
What can be done to protect and diversify Portuguese forests? This show deals with the phenomenon of forest fires, analysing their devastating impact in Portugal and southern Europe through a blend of testimonies, data and critical reflections on land management and the future of forests.
Terra do fogo is largely focussed on the story of a family who were hit hard by a series of forest fires in Portugal in 2017 that burned 500,000 hectares and took the lives of over 100 people.
