Synopsis
This concert by the Canary Islands Youth Orchestra and Los Sabandeños brings together three remarkable anniversaries: the Orchestra’s tenth anniversary, the sixtieth anniversary of Los Sabandeños, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Manuel de Falla. These milestones are united in a programme conceived as a journey through the roots and evolution of music inspired by traditional music.
Conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez and featuring pianist Juan Floristán, the programme explores the rich folk heritage that has shaped the musical identity of the Canary Islands and Spain. It celebrates an unmistakable legacy of Los Sabandeños, a leading force in preserving and promoting popular Canarian music. The programme explores the music of Manuel de Falla, the leading figure of Spanish musical nationalism, whose work transformed the melodies, rhythms and colours of folk tradition into an artistic language of universal resonance.
The Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands (JOCAN) provides the thread linking tradition and the future, highlighting the cultural legacy shared by the three celebrations. The concert invites audiences to discover how folk music and symphonic composition engage in a continuous dialogue, enriching one another and keeping alive a musical heritage that continues to inspire new generations.
