Deriva Porvenir

Artist Javier Arozena and his company will be in artistic residence at La Salita from 1 to 11 September 2026, culminating in this public sharing of his creative process, entitled Deriva porvenir.

Deriva porvenir is a multifaceted project operating on several levels: an artistic practice, a stage production and a space for researching and developing contemporary artistic languages. It is also a meeting place and a hub for collaborative networks with artists from a range of disciplines.

The nature of Deriva porvenir is unregulated and multiplicative; it explores and questions through dialogue and friction, trial and error, action and contact.

We engage with the future by stripping it of its sense of being ‘future’. Instead, we anchor it in the present and in the space we occupy. We free it from the possibility of projecting itself into a ‘beyond’ or transcending into another time yet to come. Our future unfolds in order to transform the present, operating through the actual alteration of what exists; it is a moment that endures and sustains the ‘now’. We might speak of a present future: an uncertain becoming set against a horizon that shifts from pointing us towards a path of progress and conquest to revealing itself as the precipice that plunges us towards collapse.

During this residency at La Salita at Auditorio de Tenerife, we revisit the principles of the stage work Porvenir, approaching them as a space for attentive, situated listening, a playground and a laboratory for experimentation. A place where we can come together and observe: what is moving? Or… where is it heading?
