Chamber music cycle, organ recital and other genres are highlights of the 2025-26 season
The Auditorio de Tenerife presented its programme for the 2025-26 season earlier today (July 22). More than 50 concerts have been scheduled. The details were announced by the Councillor for Cultural Affairs of the Tenerife Island Council, José Carlos Acha, and the Artistic Director of the Auditorio de Tenerife, José Luis Rivero.
The councillor said, ‘The scheduled performances include a cycle of chamber music, including piano recitals, which may be attended with a special pass; the organ recitals, which have been part of our programmes for the last 20 years; and jazz and world music’. José Carlos Acha added that ‘tickets are now on sale for the concerts in September and October, as are the special passes for the eight piano concerts’. He also mentioned the ‘intimate setting and proximity of the artists to the spectators, which characterise the performances that take place in the auditorium’s Chamber Hall.
In addition, the councillor spoke of the importance of new musical experiences: ‘There are some surprising instruments, such as the auditorium’s pipe organ. The Symphony Hall acts as a resonance chamber, with 3,835 pipes installed in its walls, and the instrument itself requires great dexterity and virtuosity, as organists must use their feet as well as their hands. Once you have experienced one of these concerts, you’ll find that they leave you wanting more.
José Luis Rivero said, ‘What we are announcing today is one of the Auditorio’s most important functions: providing spectators with music, especially classical music’. He added, ‘In addition to these fifty-some concerts of our 2025-26 season, there are another 25 of Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, 32 of Ópera de Tenerife and 93 showings of performing arts, as well as 12 artist residencies and workshops’.
Rivero stated, ‘The chamber-music cycle consists of the canonical repertoire of the genre interpreted by local, domestic and foreign artists, all of whom share a commitment to excellence and quality’. He went on to provide details on the programme’s preparation: ‘It is the result of our efforts in seven main aspects: chamber music as a supplement to symphonic music, the piano and its breadth of written works, jazz and other popular genres such as flamenco, contemporary and experimental music, our unique organ, choral and different types of vocal music, and our intermediation with producers, distributors and local representatives of artists, especially as regards pop music and its commercial implications’. He concluded by mentioning the Auditorio’s regional focus at all levels, including concerts by Canarian artists, the commissioning of works, competitions, and backing of festivals.
The Chamber Music Cycle begins with a concert starring acclaimed soloists Renaud Capuçon (violin), Kian Soltani (cello), and Mao Fujita (piano), who will interpret trios by Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn. The Van Kuijk Quartet, whose performance in April was postponed due to a weather alert, will return in September with their Impresiones parisinas programme. The following concert will showcase Boccherini’s Stabat Mater, performed by soprano Nuria Rial and the ensemble La Ritirata. In November, Polish pianist Rafal Blechacz and South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim will give a recital.
The programme once again features the baroque ensemble El Afecto Ilustrado in December and the contemporary ensemble Sonido Extremo in February. February will also see double bass player Uxía Martínez Botana presenting her quartet album, Mendelssohn X Files. March brings the Camerata RCO—an ensemble formed by members of Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Spanish mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé will perform in a recital, accompanied by a chamber group. In May, the Wien Dresden Ensemble, made up of musicians from both the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and the Vienna Philharmonic, will appear in the Chamber Hall.
Piano recitals are a highlight of this cycle. Over the year, concertgoers may enjoy performances by rising star Bogdan Dugalic (winner of the II Málaga International Piano Competition), Uzbekistan’s Behzod Abduraimov, the partnership of Esther Ropón and Ernst Surberg, Tenerife’s own Luis López, Russian virtuoso Anna Tsybuleva, Gijón native Martín García García, acclaimed British pianist Paul Lewis, and the Del Valle brothers, Víctor and Luis. All eight events take place in the Chamber Hall and are available through the Pianísimo subscription, with a 25% discount.
The Auditorio de Tenerife’s organ, one of a kind worldwide due to its stops and design, mounted on the walls of the Symphonic Hall, marks its 20th year. The milestone will be celebrated on December 14 with a recital by Juan de la Rubia, organist at Barcelona’s Basilica de la Sagrada Familia. Alongside the anniversary concert, the programme includes others: in September, Willibald Guggenmos with his Fuegos artificiales sinfónicos; in February, a duet of organ and trombone featuring Johannes Berger and Ian Bousfield; and in May, a performance by Sarah Kim, an Australian musician of Korean descent.
Within the jazz segment, audiences can look forward to a performance by Moisés P. Sánchez, an influential pianist, composer, and producer known across Europe’s jazz scene. Austrian keyboard virtuoso David Helbock will also bring his artistry to the Chamber Hall. The Canarias Jazz Showroom returns in October with performances from the Ana Ayala Sextet, Revirado Project, and Filippo dell’Asta. Moreover, the April programme includes the traditional observance of International Jazz Day.
In terms of other popular sounds, a Portuguese music concert led by the musician and composer Rodrigo Leão is scheduled. The Christmas season will once again feature gospel music performed by the South Carolina Gospel Choir, while flamenco returns in March with a recital by the renowned cantaora Rocío Márquez.
The Auditorio de Tenerife remains a key supporter and host for a variety of events, including NUMAcircuit, FMUC, Fimucité, Tensamba, Viola Fest, and the Intercentros Melómano contest. Its ongoing partnership with the wind bands federation ‘Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música’ continues through the Youth Bands Encounter and the Primavera Musical cycle.
Furthermore, the performance El Mesías participativo makes its return in December in partnership with the ‘La Caixa’ Foundation, featuring almost 200 singers performing Handel’s Messiah alongside The Sixteen’s orchestra and choir.
The tickets for the September and October performances are available on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium’s box office or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., except in August.
