Rented stage scenery never left Chile, creating a first-time dilemma for the Auditorio
The three containers of stage scenery for The Flying Dutchman that the venue had rented from the Santiago Municipal Theatre remained in Chile due to logistical problems beyond the Auditorio de Tenerife’s control. This situation resulted in an unprecedented setback to the venue’s scheduled programming.
Auditorio de Tenerife is among Spain’s most productive theatres, and the quick thinking and professionalism of its staff enabled it to solve the problem without resorting to cancellation and to put together the set design in one week, following the ideas of master playwright Marcelo Lombardero.
With over 20 years of experience in staging large-scale productions, the auditorium’s crew repurposed sets and prototypes to align with the stage director’s vision.
In addition to the professionalism and talent of the auditorium’s staff, Lombardero’s team deserves special mention for its skill. After quickly finding a workaround, they are now having to make an extra effort, especially stage and multimedia designer Noelia González, lighting chief José Luis Fiorruccio, and wardrobe head Luciana Gutman, the latter being able to work with her own creations after arriving on a flight from Santiago de Chile.
In this sense, the cast is also deserving of praise: baritone Anton Keremidtchiev, bass Vazgen Gazaryan, soprano Ángeles Blancas, tenor Airam Hernández, mezzo-soprano Guadalupe Barrientos and tenor Joan Laínez have taken the news in stride, adapting to the new sets and scenery without problems.
Thanks to these efforts, the three performances of The Flying Dutchman shall go on as planned on 16, 19 and 22 November. The tickets are available on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium’s box office or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check the special discounts for the audience under 30 years of age, students, unemployed people, and large families.
