The Austrian musician takes the stage with his Random/Control trio and singer Fola Dada for a sold-out concert
As part of its jazz concerts, the Auditorio de Tenerife presents an event featuring David Helbock’s music, performed by his Random/Control trio alongside singer Fola Dada. The concert will take place this Saturday (February 28) at 7.30 p.m. in the Chamber Hall, and tickets have already sold out.
Among the most successful European jazz musicians at this time, David Helbock has given hundreds of concerts worldwide as a frequent guest artist at the most important international jazz festivals. He has over 20 albums to his credit as an ensemble leader, the last six of which were released by the prestigious German label ACT.
In the Chamber Hall, he performs with his Random/Control trio, with whom he has been experimenting and playing for over 16 years, and with versatile German singer Fola Dada, recipient in 2022 of the renowned German Jazz Prize. David Helbock delivers his most charmingly virtuosic and eccentric performance yet, alongside one of Central Europe’s most surprising vocalists.
The trio’s distinctive style remains characterised by its multitude of instruments: just three musicians who play more than 20. Andreas Broger plays clarinet, bass clarinet, several saxophones, and flutes, and now even sings on occasion. Johannes Bär has mastered nearly all brass instruments, including sousaphone, tuba, trombone, trumpet, and horn, as well as didgeridoo, beatbox, and drums, sometimes all at once.
Inspired by this variety of musical possibilities, David Helbock focuses on the piano and some percussion instruments. He has composed many new pieces, scoring music for the poetry of William Blake, Emily Dickinson, Erich Fried, and others. Now the trio has invited Fola Dada to sing these poems.
Fola Dada is an extremely versatile artist who may be considered a pioneer in blending different genres and singing styles. As a jazz-trained singer, she began tap dancing in the style of Fred Astaire and never stopped, not even while providing vocal training to contestants on a televised talent show broadcast in Germany. She is an indispensable part of the German jazz and soul scene.
