Mitsuko Uchida, the legendary Japanese pianist and conductor, returns to the Canarian Festival 10 years after her last visit (FIMC 2010). She is coming both as soloist and conductor, leading the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO). With it she will tell us about her special “love affair” with Mozart through the performance of piano concertos nº 13 and nº 22 by the Salzburg genius.

The programme is rounded off with the work of German musician Jörg Widmann (1973): ‘Chorale Quartet’, in its new version for chamber orchestra arranged by the composer himself, which the MCO is premiering in its 2020 international tour.

Uchida (Atami, Japan, 1948) delivers a deep vision of the music she plays through her own search for truth and beauty. Known for her interpretations of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and Beethoven, she has also illuminated the music of Berg, Schoenberg, Webern and Boulez for a new generation of listeners. 

Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) was set up in 1997 on the bases of the shared vision of being a free international group. With 45 members from 20 countries, MCO works as a nomad group of passionate musicians who get together for specific tours in Europe and across the world. The sound of the MCO is characterised by the chamber music style of the ensemble contributed by the different personalities of its members. Its core repertoire, spanning from the classical Viennese and early Romantic periods to contemporary works and world premieres, displays MCO ability to cross musical boundaries.
