In Placeres íntimos [Private pleasures] the author sets out his stark view on personal relationships, of its darkest, most violent aspects using a caustic, fierce humour. Placeres íntimos is a crazy family drama that explores the limits of couples. The ridiculous and the grotesque go hand in hand in this show by Lars Norén, one of the major European playwrights at present.

After the cremation ceremony of the recently deceased mother, two siblings who have not met for years, get together with their wives and spend the night at the younger brother’s house. Their mother, through an urn containing her ashes, is present throughout the night, as a silent witness to the decadence of both marriages and the constant confrontations of the brothers.

In PLACERES ÍNTIMOS we look at couples through a magnifying glass and we can see the most obscene, coarsest details like that rotten elastic that tries to hold together rotten underwear, or a knot gone lose in a jersey, that hole, that small stain or that sweat drop, or urine…we’ll be able to perceive the acid smell, the putrefaction of human beings.
