Tebas Land
Synopsis
Auditorio de Tenerife has scheduled in its La Salita a performance of Tebas Land by the troupe Teatro Timbre 4. After the show on Saturday, there will be a talk open to the public.
French-Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco wrote Tebas Land about parricide. The work was inspired by the legendary myth of Oedipus, the life of 4th-century European Saint Martin of Tours and a judicial file created and imagined by Blanco, which narrates the trial of a young parricide named Martín Santos.
The story begins here, with various meetings on a prison basketball court between the parricide and a playwright who wishes to write about the young man’s story. Little by little, Tebas Land focuses more on a theatrical staging of the meetings than a reconstruction of the crime. Distancing itself from the ethical matter of parricide, it centres on the aesthetic potential of its representation and the possibility of offering a thesis on the theatrical event.
For director Corina Fiorillo, ‘Tebas Land is based on the principle of in dubio pro reo, on the nude as a criterion and on duality as a guide. Our work focuses on the crude reality of exposing our theatrical artifices to make them real. The play has the complexity of the primitively simple, the origin of things and the cruelty of the word without artifice. We seek to build ourselves in our own habitation of time and space, with and without artifices, and with the final playwrights, who are the spectators in communion with the setting.
Nominations: 2017 ACE Award for Best Alternative Theatre Production, Best Actor (Lautaro Perotti, Gerardo Otero), and Best Direction (Corina Fiorillo), as well as the 2017 ACE Award for Best Actor (Gerardo Otero).
