La Salita is hosting three performances this weekend for the reunion of the Argentine company El silencio

This weekend, La Salita is scheduling Sombras, por supuesto, by the company El silencio. The shows will be performed on Friday (October 24) and Saturday (October 25) at 7.30 p.m. and Sunday (October 26) at noon, in the special theatre space at the Auditorio de Tenerife.  After the first performance, a discussion session with the actors will be held for attendees.  The show is set up in a 360-degree format, with the audience seated around the stage.

After ten years, El Silencio returns to the stage with Sombras, por supuesto, still inspired by the German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder. This show arises from the following question: How do these bodies and voices connect in the present? Do they carry within and between them the ties they once shared? Do they recall their past unity, or do they forge something new?

Sombras, por supuesto (Shadows, of course), under the direction of the playwright of the piece, Romina Paula, explores the way actors and actresses communicate within the world of the director of Querelle (1982): his ghostly presence, exploring rehearsal, translation, and repetition as means to converse intimately with his work.

Romina Paula, Pilar Gamboa, Esteban Bigliardi and Esteban Lamothe met in their twenties during acting lessons with Alejandro Catalán in Buenos Aires. That encounter sparked their collaboration, leading to their first joint production, Algo de ruido hace (2007). They soon rehearsed and premiered El tiempo todo entero (2010), welcoming Susana Pampín to the ensemble. With this production, they travelled through Spain and France. Their next work, Fauna (2013), was unveiled both at Temporada Alta in Girona and at the festival d’Automne in Paris.

For a decade, they went their separate ways—starting families and exploring other careers—but their friendship endured. In 2023, at the invitation of the Club de Teatro Paraíso, they came back together to create Sombras, por supuesto (2023). They premiered the show in Buenos Aires and have already toured in Chile, Brazil, Belgium and Spain.

Pilar Gamboa, Esteban Bigliardi, Susana Pampín and Esteban Lamothe perform in the show, which includes original music by Germán Cohen. The stage and lighting were designed by Paula and Sebastián Arpesella, who also produced the play.
