The Auditorio hosts this event on Wednesday as part of a project celebrating the 40th anniversary of Delirium Teatro

This Sunday, 11 June, at 7.30 p.m., the Chamber Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife will see the first public reading of Libros cruzados, the new play of Canarian playwright Antonio Tabares. The work is to premiere in September as part of the ‘40 Delirios’ project celebrating 40 years of activity of the theatre company Delirium Teatro. Entry is free until the total capacity is reached.

Tabares’ work tells the story of a book (Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina) that is passed from one person to another. Three women rethink their lives after reading it. For museum security guard Mariana, the story reflects her own life, which she feels is dull and senseless. Novelist Patricia comes to question her profession and the sincerity of her relationship, and Cris finds consolation in the works of Tolstoy to deal with her pain. Libros cruzados expresses Tabares’ love of books and his rumination regarding the extent to which books may shed light on our lives and help us to carry on.

The premiere of Libros cruzados is slated for 5 September at the Auditorio Capitol in Tacoronte. The work’s eight-show run at the La Salita hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife is to begin on 10 October and will conclude on 19 October.

Antonio Tabares is a Canarian dramatist known for his works La sombra de don Alonso, La punta del iceberg and Proyecto Fausto, among others. His collaboration with Delirium Teatro proved to be essential for staging numerous productions that have garnered acclaim in Spain and abroad. His texts have been translated into several languages and have been chosen for prestigious accolades such as the Tirso de Molina Award, the Pérez Minik Award, and the Réplica Award for Best Theatrical Author.

Severiano García Noda, a founding member of Delirium Teatro, has described Libros cruzados as a complex and ambitious production that is beyond the normal scope and physical capacity of a company such as Delirium Teatro. With over 30 scenes, 20 characters, a cast of six actors and six actresses and some 20 different spaces could only take place on a special occasion such as this 40th anniversary of the company’s creation in order to gain the interest and support of our institutions.

The activities are part of the project ‘40 Delirios’, which celebrates the company’s 40th anniversary and is an initiative of the company in collaboration with the Tacoronte town council and the regional government of the Canary Islands. The project is meant to showcase the company’s four decades of creativity for the public, institutions and artists who have made it all possible.
