Aarón Zapico is an internationally acclaimed orchestra conductor and a specialist in baroque and classical repertoire. For over two decades, he has been celebrated for his daring and innovative performances. He has made a profound contribution to the restoration of Spanish musical heritage and the revitalisation of the classical music sector.
Focussing on the conducting of baroque opera and orchestral music, he also collaborates with renowned soloists and delves into contemporary music and interdisciplinary projects.
As a guest conductor, Aarón Zapico has collaborated in recent years with several orchestras such as the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Orquesta de Extremadura, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Oviedo Filarmonía or the Orquesta de la Radio Televisión Española (RTVE), and with important vocal soloists such as Ruth Iniesta and Vivica Genaux.
He is also a frequent guest at early music festivals throughout Europe, such as the Bach Festival in Eisenach, the Händel Festival in Halle or the Rudolfinum in Prague, and he is the music director of Forma Antiqva, considered one of Spain's most influential period ensembles.
In 2023, he gained international attention when he opened the prestigious Granada International Music and Dance Festival. During the 2023-24 season, he debuted with the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Orquesta de Córdoba and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, and he conducted a production of Teatro Real Madrid and Teatros del Canal: Francesca Caccini's opera The Liberation of Ruggiero from the island of Alcina.
Born in Asturias, Zapico initially trained as a classical pianist and went on to specialise in early music and harpsichord. He has been a professor at various conservatories and universities worldwide and founded associations and platforms to protect musicians' rights.
His career has been honoured with numerous prizes and awards, including the Prize for the Best Conductor from the Association of Spanish Ensembles of Early Music in 2019. His discography has earned multiple nominations for the International Classical Music Awards.
