Charlie Moreno is a bass player, composer, producer and clinician born in Gran Canaria who has lived in mainland Spain, both in Madrid and Barcelona for nearly 20 years. He has taken classes with great musicians of the jazz scene including Russell Malone, Gary Grainger, Yellowjackets, Dave Weckl, Tom Kennedy, Richard Bona, Richie Goods, Victor Bailey and Victor Wooten, among others.
He is currently a private tutor of electric bass teaching across Spain and is the lead musician of a project of his own, “POWAFUNK” having released a record in 2016. He is funding member of the Remembering Prince project, in addition to being accompanying musicians to great Spanish pop figures.
Throughout his career, Moreno has collaborated with musicians of the stature of North American violinist Christian Howes, Chuck Loeb, Polo Ortí, Joel Rosenblatt, Till Broenner, Eric Marienthal, Anthony Jackson, Steve Lawson, Mike Ricchiuti, Phil Magnotti, Carles Benavent, Federico Lechner, Tors- ten de Winkel, Héctor Salazar, José Antonio Ramos, Andreas Prittwitz, Mestisay, Los Coquillos, Kike Perdomo, Esther Ovejero and many more.
Charlie is endorser and clinician for the bass trademark MTD, EBS amplifiers, D’Addario strings and RightOn! Straps.
He has given seminars and concerts at international and national festivals including European Bass Day (Germany), Fuzz Guitar Show (Sweden), ElbJazz (Hamburg), Bass Day UK (UK), Museumsuferfest (Frankfurt), at several Festival de Jazz de Barcelona, Novas Músicas Mon-forte in Lemos, in many Festival Canarias Jazz y Más, Todobajos Bass Day in its five years and at WOMAD.
In addition, the Canarian musician has published four solo records: So Lonely (2005) Island Style (2007), Subway to Venus (2011), cd that took the award for “Best bass player record in 2010” at the 2011 Todobajos Bass Day Festival. He has just released From the Vault (2018).
As accompanying musician for Spanish pop groups, he has worked in tours of Antonio Romero, Alex Casademunt (O.T.) or the Grammy nominee Shaila Dúrcal, singer Chenoa, the group Flores Raras and the pop-rock band Nonno, to mention a few. Worth mentioning too is his appearance on the Telecinco TV production “Va la Nota”, which was broadcast nationwide.
He is currently the bass player of David Bustamante band on the tours “Vivir” and “Amor de los dos”. He is also on tour with “Clarence Bekker Band”, the band of Dutch singer Clarence Milton Bekker (Play for Change) and the Khaoula Bouchkhi band.
