Daniasa M. Curbelo

Daniasa M. Curbelo (Tenerife, 1995) has been involved in the creation, research and dissemination of the culture and popular memory of the Canary Islands. From a gender-based vantage point, her work questions hegemonic accounts and proposes new narratives that assign greater relevance to the concept of sexual subalternity. This approach is meant to provide an understanding of history that goes beyond colonial, binary and Eurocentric definitions. She holds a degree in fine arts (2017), a Master's degree in gender studies and equality policies (2021) and a Master's degree in teacher training (2024) from the University of La Laguna. She won the 2020 Emma Goldman Snowball Award, bestowed by the Dutch foundation FLAX, for her international commitment to gender equality, and she has received other forms of institutional recognition. Her research and creations have been the subject of exhibitions held outside the archipelago, in Paris, Barcelona, and the Azores, as well as featured in other events.
