Diego Garrido Sanz was born in the Lucero neighbourhood of Madrid in 1993. His first audio-visual project was the short 'Me gustaría estar enamorada… a veces me siento muy sola', directed by Chus Gutiérrez in 2010, in which he acted and wrote his character's part in the collective script. After three years of acting in the theatrical troupe La Joven Compañía, he began studying interpretation in Madrid in 2011 at the drama school RESAD, as well as international relations at the Complutense University of Madrid.Between 2013 and 2015, he spent the last two years of his studies as an exchange student at the University of the Arts Helsinki (Taideyliopisto). In Helsinki, he completed several courses at the film school and, in 2015, made his first full-length film, 'Joutomaa', directed by Ulla Heikkila, in which he acted and wrote the script. That same year, Diego returned to his hometown and embarked on his acting career. He worked with stage directors such as Carlota Ferrer and Víctor Conde and in theatres including La Abadía, Centro Dramático Nacional, Teatros del Canal, Pavón Kamikaze and Teatro Español. In 2016, he directed and wrote his first short, 'Amor Ferus', in which he shared the stage with Verónica Forqué, María Forqué and Chey Jurado (Festival de Málaga). In 2018, he directed, wrote and acted in 'Ultimate Fantasy', his first self-produced work. The short drew on a story that had appeared in the fanzine Lo Bello Duele. The cast featured Carolina Yuste, Vicente Navarro and Marta Matute.In July 2018, he studied filmmaking on a Fulbright scholarship in Los Angeles, where he worked with his best friend, the talented photographer Silvia Grav. With her, he worked as a production assistant on several advertisements, including 'Blackmagic' for Mezcal El Silencio. He also wrote the script of the short 'Helio, which dealt with the subject of heterosexual male prostitution in California. He also worked as an assistant to director Sergi Castellà in the shooting of his first film, 'El niño'. After completing the course, he moved to New York to finish his scholarship at The New School, where he studied human rights with Human Rights Watch and undertook gender and race studies. He met Olivia Decamps in New York in 2019, an NYU student with whom he made ‘Aisoleision (Ghosted)’. In this short, now submitted to film festivals, he participated as scriptwriter, choreographer, and actor.After completing his scholarship and returning to Madrid, he was contacted by Primo Content (Argentina) for his first scriptwriting job in the series ‘Chaperos', which is currently under development with Turner – HBO MAX.The series 'Ephebo', his first as a creator and co-produced with Álvaro Morte and Nanouk Films, is under development with funding from the Creative Europe MEDIA programme and is the highest-scoring project in Spain in 2022. The main cast comprises exceptional talents, all old friends seeking a new project that explores two forbidden subjects in Spanish fiction: mental health and politics. Diego Garrido, Jan Matheu, Carolina Yuste and Enric Auquer, among others, are scripting the series. Filming is slated to begin towards the end of 2023.
