Giancarlo Guerrero

He has been a winner of six GRAMMY® awards and music director of the Nashville Symphony.  Through commissions, recordings and world premieres, Guerrero has championed the works of prominent American composers. He has conducted the Nashville Symphony in 11 world premieres and 15 recordings of American music.

During its 2023-24 season, he returned to conduct the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, as well as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Guerrero has led orchestras as a guest conductor in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Montreal, Philadelphia, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, and Houston. He has also conducted internationally in Germany, London, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Australia.

Guerrero recently completed a six-season tenure as the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic music director. Previously, he held posts as associate conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra Miami Residency and the Sinfónica Gulbenkian in Lisbon, music director of the Eugene Symphony and associate conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra.

Born in Nicaragua, Guerrero emigrated as a child to Costa Rica, where he joined the local youth symphony. He studied percussion and conducting at Baylor University in Texas and earned his master's degree in conducting at Northwestern. Guerrero is deeply committed to conducting trainee orchestras and has worked with the Curtis School of Music, the National Youth Orchestra (NYO2) and the programme "Accelerando" of the Nashville Symphony.
