Guillermo Weickert

Dance company

Guillermo Weickert is a choreographer, stage director, performer, and teacher of contemporary dance with a long professional career marked by his deep and passionate curiosity about the potential of stage creation as a cultural asset and a tool for social transformation.

Guillermo Weickert's extensive professional career has allowed him to perform on stages and in artistic creation spaces using a great variety of approaches and perspectives: as a performer, stage director, artistic director, choreographer, mentor, project manager, teacher, and pedagogue in dance companies, touching on genres such as physical theatre, flamenco, performance, and circus. The central theme of his work is undoubtedly movements that go beyond the category of dance, shifting towards a concept of movement that is inherent to all human beings. Therefore, his work represents a place of encounter with others, a place of learning and education; it is a constant transmitter of immaterial and cultural wealth.

His career as a creator is also defined by a marked personal interest in the potential of decentralised and rural space for contemporary creation, as well as his interest in bringing about a sense of artistic community and his commitment to good citizenship and cultural values.

The thought processes that underlie his work challenge some of the main questions of the current context of dance, such as the predominance of a standard canon and individual practices to bring a more real and human component to creation.

Thanks to his varied and complementary facets, he is considered one of the most versatile multidisciplinary artists on the scene today, whose projects explore the boundaries and limits of conventional artistic disciplines, blurring the traditional distinctions between the genres of dance, performance, and theatre.
