Juan de la Rubia
Organ
Born in La Vall d'Uixó, in the Valencian province of Castelló (Spain), Juan de la Rubia is the resident organist of the Sagrada Família church in Barcelona. His musical education took place in several European capitals, where he studied organ, piano and improvisation, the latter under Emilio Molina and Wolfgang Seifen. The extraordinary awards he received upon concluding his studies and the first-place honours he obtained in the ‘Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales de España' and 'Primer Palau' contests contributed greatly to the advancement of his early career. His incessant activity as a soloist has taken him to the main stages of over 30 countries around the world. He has performed as a soloist and as conductor of renowned orchestras such as the National Orchestra of Spain, the Spanish National Radio and TV Orchestra (RTVE), the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid (ORCAM), the Symphony Orchestras of Galicia, Bilbao, Principality of Asturias, Castile and León, and the Bogotá Philharmonic, among other outstanding ensembles. In the category of historically informed performance, he has collaborated with Les Siècles and conducted the Freiburger Barockorchester and the Orquesta Barroca de Tenerife. More recently, he founded his own orchestra, known as Orquestra del Miracle, which was acclaimed by the public and critics at its June 2023 presentation. In addition, he has collaborated with soloists such as Matthias Goerne, Carolyn Sampson, Elena Obraztsova, Marta Mathéu, and Philippe Jaroussky, with whom he recorded the Grammy-nominated CD 'Sacred Cantatas' (Erato, 2016), and Marco Mezquida, with whom he collaborated in the improvisation-oriented project Bach&Forward. Juan de la Rubia has also specialised in improvisation for silent films, including works such as Faust and Nosferatu (Murnau), Metropolis (Lang), The General (Keaton) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Wiene).
