Justin Hurwitz, graduated from Harvard University in 2008, where he studied music composition and orchestration. He composed the songs and score for Damien Chazelle's 2010 feature debut, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench. In 2014, he composed the original score for Whiplash, earning a Grammy nomination.
In 2016, he composed the soundtrack for La La Land, directed by Chazelle, which won him two Oscars (Best Soundtrack and Best Original Song for City of Stars), as well as other awards such as a Bafta, two Golden Globes, two Grammy Awards, two Critics' Choice Awards... His relationship with the American director has continued in his subsequent works: First Man (2019) and Babylon (2023), both awarded the Golden Globe for Best Soundtrack.
