MAUREEN CHOI

Violin

Maureen Choi is a unique and magnetic violinist who, equipped with an enviable technique, can hypnotise the audience with the sensibility she exudes from her violin. Hearing her live is an experience that is hard to forget.

From a Korean family and born in the United States, she graduated in classical violin from Michigan State University and jazz from Berklee College, where she now also teaches, as well as at the Higher Centre of Creative Music in Madrid.

She has performed with artists such as Rodney Whitaker, Johnny O Neal, Larry Harlow, Josh Groban, Kanye West, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Javier Colina. She formed her quartet in 2012 after arriving in Spain, and since then they have won international jazz competitions and appeared on stages and at festivals all over Spain and the United States.

"Not everything has been invented in music. This group led by the now almost legendary and very young violinist Maureen Choi offers us a luxury mixture of jazz, flamenco, folk, Latin music... with a common denominator for everything, in addition to its originality: its quality." (Larry Harlow, Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award).
