The members of this young Spanish dance company feel the desire and need to work from a contemporaneous point of view, from within a relationship with the current context of live arts, engaging in dialogue and incorporating other forms of language that enhance contact with and proximity to the spectator, and upholding at all times their deep commitment to performative innovation.
Their work Volumen 1 (2019) was not only interpreted at numerous festivals but also selected as the best Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography. The company also received the Audience Award and Nave del Duende Residence Award at the VI Choreography Competition of the District of Tetuán, the Audience Award at the Choreographic Competition 10 Sentidos 2019, the Programming Award at the Flamenco Vancouver Festival and the Madrid Flamenco Festival in the 28th Choreography Contest of Spanish Dance and Flamenco, as well as the ACT award for the best short piece. In addition, Volumen 1 was included in the 13th Notebook of Recommended Shows of the Commission of Ballet, Dance and Movement Arts of the network of Spanish theatres published in 2020, which assigned it an R rating (R for recommended).
To broaden the horizons of the dance scene and the collective, Mucha Muchacha has collaborated with artists from various disciplines in performances such as Les Tournesols (Matadero Madrid, 2016) and Voces (Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando), onscreen dance pieces like SELFI (Matadero Madrid, 2016) and La perra de Goya (Premio Plataforma Milk&Honey, 2016), and to its recent choreographic work in Renacimiento (La Tristura, 2020). It has also generated contexts of creation and research such as #DANZAESPROFESIÓN, which explores the reality of professional dance in society, and Fiesta Otoñal (2018) and Fiesta de Fin de Curso (2019), where the members share their choreographic materials with diverse groups of women, some with dance training and some without.
Over the last year, they have prepared their first large-format work, Mucha muchacha, which premiered in Spain in February 2021 at the Conde Duque Contemporary Cultural Centre in Madrid.
