Quartet Gerhard

string quartet

Considered one of the most renowned quartets in Europe, the Quartet Gerhard stands out for its remarkable sensitivity for sound and deep respect for music as one of the greatest human assets.

As a quartet, its main influences have been in Basel (Rainer Schmidt) and Berlin (Eberhard Feltz). In 2018 they graduated with a Master’s degree from the prestigious Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover with honours.

Winners of several national and international awards, Quartet Gerhard has performed on important international stages such as Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Muziekgebouw as part of the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam 2020, the chamber music season of Stadt-Casino in Basel (Switzerland), the Bordeaux string quartet festival and the Festival Radio France Montpellier (France), the Musikamera season at Teatro La Fenice in Venice (Italy), among others. They have also been invited to prestigious summer festivals such as the Schubertiada in Vilabertran, the Festival Pau Casals in El Vendrell, Porta Ferrada, Aix-en-Provence and Verbier. During the 18/19 season they were resident artists at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona and the Josep Carreras Auditorium in Vilaseca. Since 2021 they have been at the International Festival of Torroella and at the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight with all of the Shostakovich quartets.

It is worth highlighting their commitment to new music, performing at important events such as the series of the CNDM in Madrid (Spain), the Nuit de la Création in Aix-enProvence (France) and the Arnold Schoenberg Center in Vienna (Austria).

Their performances have been broadcast by radio stations such as Catalunya Música, RNE (Spanish National Radio), NDR and SWR (Germany), BBC (UK) and France Musique (France).

In terms of records, it is worth highlighting their album (Seed Music 2016) - critics prize for best CD in 2016, a release with works by Kurtag, Berg and Schumann under the label Harmonia Mundi International and their latest album recently with the French record label Klarthe (“Ad Astra”) with works by Debussy and Humet.

Their upcoming engagements notably include their debut in the chamber season at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
