Vanessa Espín (Madrid, 1973) holds a degree in stage direction from the Royal Higher College of Performing Arts in Madrid (RESAD). She specialised in playwriting. She also studied drama at Cuarta Pared. As a playwright, her work focuses on creating an integral and harmonious vision of human beings at both social and personal levels. As an actress, she divides her efforts among direction, teaching, and writing. Since 2015, she has taught acting and playwriting at the Actors’ Studio of Juan Codina. In the 2024–25 season, she participated in Classical Theatre with 'Las pequeñas mudanzas,' a work she wrote and directed. She is also the author of '400 días sin luz,' which was included in the 2022 programme of Centro Dramático Nacional and won the Spanish MET award that year for best theatrical playwriting and best show. She wrote 'Los suspendidos' under a Nuevas Dramaturgias 2021 scholarship granted by Teatro Victoria Eugenia in San Sebastián, Teatro Principal Antzokia in Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao. She wrote and directed 'Un animal en mi almohada,' which featured in the 40th Autumn Festival and ran at Teatro Fernán Gómez. She won first prize in the 23rd edition of the competition for theatrical stage directors sponsored by the city of Torrejón de Ardoz and organised by the Spanish Association of Stage Directors. She was a finalist in the Spanish MET theatre awards. This work was made possible in part by assistance from the Autonomous Community of Madrid for the creation of theatrical texts in 2019. She has directed Casa Matriz by Diana Raznovich, which played at Teatro Español. She has also authored the theatre pieces La mujer de tejero, Nada es normal, La memoria azul, and Una bolsa de hielo en un corazón vacío.
