This Sunday, the wind ensembles from Tacoronte, Buenavista and Valle de Guerra join the “Primavera Musical” concert cycle
The Santa Cecilia wind band from Tacoronte will open the 2026 Primavera Musical municipal ensemble series. The concert will take place this Sunday (12 April) at 11.30 a.m. and will also feature performances by the concert bands Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (Buenavista) and Nuestra Señora de Lourdes (Valle de Guerra, La Laguna). In total, 139 musicians will appear on the stage of the Chamber Hall at the Auditorio de Tenerife. Entry is free until the total capacity is reached.
The Santa Cecilia Wind Band, with 64 members, traces its origins back to 1901, when two local ensembles in Tacoronte merged. Over the years, it has become an integral part of the town’s cultural scene and a hallmark of its musical heritage. Antonio Ordóñez will conduct the band at Sunday’s concert, which features Alegrías en la plaza by Antonio Carmona Reverte, Estampas andaluzas by Andrés Piquero, and the symphonic poem Coliseum by Hugo Chinesta.
José Humberto Martín will conduct the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Wind Band from Buenavista del Norte, founded in 1929. The 40 musicians will open the programme with Magdalena 1990, a pasodoble composed by Rafael Signes in homage to the Magdalena festivities in Castellón, Spain. The concert continues with the well-known melody from the musical Hello Dolly—popularised by Louis Armstrong and composed by Jerry Herman, arranged by Julián William Díaz—and follows with a selection from the zarzuela La Gran Vía by Federico Chueca and Joaquín Valverde, which evokes Madrid of that era. The performance concludes with Mambo No. 8 by Dámaso Pérez Prado.
The event will conclude with a performance by the Nuestra Señora de Lourdes Wind Band of Valle Guerra, created in 1995. Unai Jacob Marrero Simón will conduct its 35 musicians, who will deliver a varied programme featuring Vilasilvana by Saúl Gómez Soler, Arabian Dances by Brian Balmages, and Danzas Cubanas by Robert Sheldon.
The concert cycle ‘Primavera Musical’ is an initiative by the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation in collaboration with the Tenerife Island Council. The next Primavera Musical event will be on 19th April, featuring performances by the wind bands Nivaria (Arafo), Arona and San Sebastián (Tejina, La Laguna).
