The musical educator’s lecture is scheduled for Monday (day 3) in the Chamber Hall
The music communicator Ramón Gener will be back at the Auditorio de Tenerife next Monday (November 3) at 7.30 p.m. to tackle about Richard Wagner’s opera Der fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman). It represents the second piece of the Ópera de Tenerife subscription season. On this occasion, the musical disseminator will reveal the secrets of the production scheduled for November 16, 19, and 22. Tickets for this show with Ramón Gener are available for eight euros.
Gener explains the plot, emotions, characters, music, and themes in an entertaining and accessible way, using contemporary similes and interpreting piano fragments to reinforce his explanations. It is an opportunity for all those who want to learn more about this show before the performances, and even for those who have never been to an opera and want to know the details before attending the opera.
The Auditorio de Tenerife is staging, for the first time, a work by Wagner, constituting a milestone in our programming. Following the concert versions of Tannhäuser and Parsifal, Ópera de Tenerife turns its focus to Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer. This early work in the composer’s career shows his first experimentation with leitmotifs. More than with words, the story is told through musical development, which completes the work and adds a psychological element to the narration.
Through its tremendous onstage and dramatic concision, Der fliegende Holländer tells the story of Senta. She is the protagonist of this opera whose title refers to a masculine character. The work is set in an atmosphere of cold and stormy seas and an asphyxiating context of sexist violence from which Senta seeks shelter through the mythical Dutch mariner. The chorus adds to the societal pressure bearing down on Senta in this complex society that is contaminated by the egomaniacal, patriarchal perspective.
Born in Barcelona, Ramón Gener holds a degree in Humanities and Business Studies. He began his musical education at the Higher Conservatoire of Music of the Liceu at the age of six. After several years of performing as a baritone, he transitioned to a new role as a music educator. He offers lectures on opera, classical music, and art, which have been featured on radio and television, both locally and internationally. Gener has published four books: Si Beethoven pudiera escucharme (2013), El amor te hará inmortal (2016), Beethoven, un músico sobre un mar de nubes (2020) and Historia de un piano (2024).
