The ensemble Concerto Italiano, directed by Rinaldo Alessandrini, will perform this Thursday in the Chamber Hall.
The Auditorio de Tenerife will host a vocal recital titled “Madrigales de Monteverdi” this Thursday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature the Concerto Italiano ensemble, conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini. Six vocalists will perform selections from the third book of madrigals by the renowned Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi in the Chamber Hall.
For this performance, the ensemble, founded in 1984, will feature sopranos Monica Piccinini and Sonia Tedla, mezzo-soprano Maria Chiara Gallo, alto Andrés Montilla, tenor Raffaele Giordani, and bass Gabriele Lombardi. Concerto Italiano’s history is closely linked to the revival of early music in Italy. The group has focused on the compositions of Monteverdi, Bach, and Vivaldi, using their music as a foundation to renew early music performance and explore new aesthetic and rhetorical perspectives within the repertoire.
Concerto Italiano, currently recording for Naïve, has recently released several notable works. These include Monteverdi’s “Orfeo,” a collection of sacred music by Alessandro Scarlatti, the complete set of Monteverdi’s madrigals, and “Selva Morale e Spirituale” by Monteverdi. Additionally, they have released Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” and “L’Estro Armonico,” along with a program of Roman music featuring Sandrine Piau.
Rinaldo Alessandrini, the founder and director of Concerto Italiano, is also highly regarded as a recitalist on the harpsichord, fortepiano, and organ. He is recognised as one of the leading interpreters of Monteverdi in the world. His deep expertise and passion for Italian music shine through in his programming, where he strives to convey the essential, yet often subtle, expressive and lyrical qualities that characterise the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Italian repertoire.
