From Thursday to Sunday, the family-friendly productions ˊSueñoˊ and ˊRomeo y Julieta de bolsilloˊ grace the stage.

The Auditorio de Tenerife is presenting two productions by the company Criolla, inspired by works by William Shakespeare, in its theatre space La Salita. The Argentine company’s shows, which will also offer educational performances during the week, are suitable for all audiences and will run from Thursday to Sunday.

Sueño, the first of the two shows, can be enjoyed on Thursday 11th, followed by a post-show talk, and on Saturday 13th, with both performances at 7.30 p.m. Romeo y Julieta de bolsillo will be staged on Friday 12th at 7.30 p.m., including a post-performance discussion, and on Sunday 14th at 12 noon.

Sueño reimagines Shakespeare’s magical comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a fun, liberated style, suitable for ages 10+. In this version, four actors reunite in a forest to rehearse a play, unaware that the place is inhabited by magical beings who will happily and capriciously play with their emotions. These four actors play all the characters of the original work in a veritable whirlwind packed with onstage resources, physical action, poetry and abundant humour.

Romeo y Julieta de bolsillo, which can be enjoyed from the age of 8, opens with two university professors giving a master class on William Shakespeare, or at least that is their intention. Details on the life and work of the Bard are a matter of debate, and when it comes to discussing them, these two professors are in a class of their own. How many references to ears are there? These academics appear to have left no stone unturned, yet when they must determine whether the end of Romeo y Julieta is happy or sad, there is the most significant challenge the two have ever faced:  interpreting the work with all its eleven characters of Shakespeare that is relatable, poetic and, above all else, fun.
