The venue has also been included in the list of Canarian public-sector companies harmonising work with SDGs
The Auditorio de Tenerife has received AENOR certification for its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, an initiative actively supported by UNESCO. The public-sector company of the Tenerife Island Council has become the first cultural venue in Spain to receive AENOR certification. It has also been included on the list of Canarian public-sector companies. This recognition adds to the various certifications awarded to the venue in recent years, highlighting its maturity, consistency, and quality.
Councillor for Cultural Affairs of the Tenerife Island Council, José Carlos Acha, stated that ‘AENOR certification is an external source that legitimises these efforts, which reflect the quality of the auditorium’s work’. Expressing his appreciation of the achievement, he congratulated the venue’s staff, encouraging them to continue making progress in this direction, which has led to the certification of its quality and environmental management systems, as well as its health and safety in the workplace, among other areas.
In a visit to Auditorio de Tenerife, AENOR’s Regional Director in the Canary Islands, Javier Lantigua, congratulated staff and the consultant Arco Calidad: ‘Sustainability has now been made a part of the auditorium’s strategy. In the eyes of consumers, this is an important step forward, because it goes beyond environmental concern (for which the venue has also obtained certification). They see it not only as an in-house effort but also as what the world now agrees is the most important focus: the achievement of the SDGs outlined in the 2030 Agenda.
This policy of Sustainability, analysed in terms of social, environmental and material matters, has been carried out based on existing activity and on initiatives that the Auditorio de Tenerife has already put into action, but putting them in the context of SDGs, which are global targets to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity. With this approach, targets and actions have been defined for each SDG, with emphasis on SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), including eight targets and 32 actions; it is followed by SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), including five targets and 19 actions; and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals), including four targets and a dozen actions.
Some of these actions include the execution of sustainable infrastructure projects, the creation of new educational resources, the promotion of the use of efficient technologies throughout the value chain, and collaborative projects undertaken with career specialisation centres.
This certification is annually monitored, and the day-to-day execution of the activity results in ongoing enrichment of the action plan as new programmes are added.
The Auditorio’s relationship with AENOR began in 2020 with the certification of the venue’s COVID-19 protocol and has continued in other matters, such as environmental management, quality management and health and safety in the workplace, the latter certified in early 2025.
