The regional Councillor for Cultural Affairs attended a working session with the companies of Carmen Fumero and Chang Dance Theatre

The Auditorio de Tenerife kicks off its performing-arts season on 6 and 7 September with the premiere of the dance show Peces borrosos. The new production, crafted by the Tenerife-based company of Carmen Fumero and Taiwan’s Chang Dance Theatre, is already taking shape in the Auditorio’s facilities. Today (Friday 22), the Councillor for Cultural Affairs of the Tenerife Island Council, José Carlos Acha, visited the performers of the show and participated in a work meeting.

The councillor expressed interest in the specifics of this production and sought to understand how the collaboration between the two companies began. Acha emphasised the season’s opening, marked by the world premiere of this co-production with the association “Ritmos del Mundo”, demonstrating the Auditorio’s firm commitment and solidifying its role as the leading dance institution in the Canary Islands.’ This production features a collaboration between Chang Dance Studio, Canal Choreography Centre and Eduardo Úrculo Cultural Centre.

Carmen Fumero and Miguel Zomas are the joint directors of Peces borrosos, the choreography of which is directed by Tenerife-born Fumero. The work is to be interpreted by Dácil González, Chien-Hao Chang, Chien-Chih Chang, Ho-Chien Chang, Carmen Fumero and Miguel Zomas. The score is credited to Iván Cebrián, Alfredo Díez is in charge of lighting, and Yaiza Pinillos is the wardrobe designer.

Peces borrosos (Blurry Fish) is a metaphor that brings blurriness into focus. It is about the unsaid; about looking into a pond full of fish that swim in the same way that people go through life: blurry on the surface but deep and orderly at the bottom. From these footprints, the water that generates life and movement emerges. It is at this moment that the lines between walking and swimming are blurred. Something becomes blurry and diluted, but it remains.

Many constellations may be formed within a place, within a pond, and many combinations of colours may come of one union with another. The creatures of this painting appear before us, immersed in that great, empty space. However, when we contemplate those fish, their presence immediately brings water to mind: Don’t speak to the fish in the pond about the sea.
