After a presentation by organ maker Albert Blancafort, Juan de la Rubia will give a concert featuring Bach and Zimmer, among others.

This Sunday (14 November), Auditorio de Tenerife marks the 20th anniversary of its organ, a unique instrument with 3,835 pipes located in the Symphony Hall. The event begins at 11 a.m. with a pre-concert talk by master organ builder Albert Blancafort, who led the instrument’s design and construction. The concert follows at 12 noon, featuring Juan de la Rubia, titular organist of Barcelona’s Sagrada Família, performing his programme Arquitecturas sonoras: 20 años de órgano. (Sonorous Architectures, Two Decades of Organ)

In his talk, Blancafort covers the organ’s history, his workshop’s global projects for churches and concert halls, and the making of Tenerife’s 20-year-old instrument.

De la Rubia, who studied organ, piano, and improvisation in various European cities, has been associated with the Auditorio since Blancafort constructed its organ late last century.

He will present a recital featuring key German Baroque organ works, including Bach’s chorale and the Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C major, as well as the overture from Handel’s Samson. The programme also includes two selections from Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar score. It concludes with the interpreter’s improvisations, demonstrating his expertise and insight. This promises to be a memorable experience for attendees.

The organ of Auditorio de Tenerife is a 21st-century instrument, notable for its distinctive design, sound, and musical range. Its 3,835 pipes are integrated into the walls of Symphony Hall. The organist operates the instrument from the stage using a console and four keyboards. Eight additional keyboards and a glass Portative, also designed by Blancafort, can be connected for recitals in the Chamber Hall.

The tickets can be purchased at a single price of €15 and €5 for audiences under 30 on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium’s box office, or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check the special discounts for students, unemployed people and large families, among others.
