The course will be held until August 3 at the Auditorio de Tenerife with the backing of the Tenerife Island Council
The Auditorio de Tenerife hosted earlier today (21 July) the presentation of the 16th Course for Conductors of Concert Bands, Orchestras and Choirs, promoted by the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation ‘Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música’ in collaboration with the Tenerife Island Council. The course will run until August 3, with conductor and composer José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana serving as a guest teacher in the second week.
The opening ceremony was attended by Councillor for Cultural Affairs José Carlos Acha; the president and the secretary of the Wind Bands Federation, the Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música, Juan Antonio Rancel and Anabel Poleo, respectively; course coordinator Vivian Gutiérrez; and conductor of the Tenerife Island Wind Band Miguel Ángel Arrocha.
Acha encouraged the course participants to make full use of their training: ‘This is the only two-week course offered in Europe’. He also commented on ‘the tremendous effort of the administration of the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation, with several initiatives, all of which are backed by the Tenerife Island Council’.
Juan Antonio Rancel and Vivian Gutiérrez praised the involvement of local authorities: ‘The council has always been involved in our activities,’ they said, adding that Acha’s efforts in this regard were noteworthy, as he has recently been present at all of them.
The collaboration between the council and the federation also includes the concerts of the ‘Primavera Musical’ cycle (Musical Spring Cycle), in which the federation’s ensembles perform in the auditorium’s Chamber Hall between March and June, as well as an encounter for the island’s ensembles of young musicians.
