34th Canary Islands Jazz & More International Festival to feature Dee Dee Bridgewater Quartet at the Auditorio de Tenerife.
Dee Dee Bridgewater is among today’s top contemporary jazz artists. A Memphis Music Hall of Fame inductee and winner of multiple Grammy Awards, her appearance at this year’s festival will be a rallying cry and a reflection on a journey in progress titled We exist.
Her incomparable voice and performative skills will lead us on a journey through the history of American protest music, along with the driving forces of Carmen Staff (musical director and piano), Rosa Brunello (bass) and Shirazette Tinnin (drums). Her live performances are reflections on a long road connecting past and present; a testimony to the relation between activism and art through the lens of four strong women who look to the future and are proud of their origins.
Curious, well-travelled, pioneering and experimental are words that might describe parts of Dee Dee Bridgewater. A tireless guardian of tradition throughout a multifaceted career spanning four decades, she has earned a great many awards and honours. Now considered one of today’s finest jazz vocalists, she has applied her unique style to breathe new life into standards with courage, personality and unparalleled talent.
