This edition, which finished yesterday at the Auditorio de Tenerife’s Chamber Hall, featured thirty-seven wind bands.
The current edition of the Primavera Musical cycle comprised thirteen concerts. It ended yesterday (Sunday 15th) at the Chamber Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife, with the presence of Lope Afonso, Vice President of the Tenerife Island Council, and José Carlos Acha, Councillor for Cultural Affairs. Over 4,500 spectators attended this concert cycle, organised by the wind bands federation ‘Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música’ with the support of the Tenerife Island Council.
The wind bands ‘Cruz Santa’ from Los Realejos, ‘San Sebastián, de Tejina’ (La Laguna), ‘José Cabrera Mejías’ from Icod de los Vinos, and the municipal band ‘Asociación Escuela Municipal de Música’ from La Gomera put the finishing touch on this year’s cycle, which has featured 37 bands, starting with the Insular Band of the Tenerife Federation on March 16.
Lope Afonso said, ‘Wind bands play a vital role in the society of Tenerife. They are directly related to our island’s municipalities and represent their citizens. In addition, we are proud of their talent and the high quality of their performances.’
The Councillor for Cultural Affairs, José Carlos Acha, acknowledged the federation’s dedication. ‘After having attended the concerts of this year’s Primavera Musical cycle, I have to say that I have observed a significant number of young musicians among the bands’ members, which is a reason to think that our bands are facing a bright future.’
Lope Afonso and José Carlos Acha coincided in their belief that ‘the regional government must continue providing support for these kinds of initiatives, which bring the talent of our musicians to the inhabitants of Tenerife who, year after year, turn out in greater numbers to attend these concerts’.
The Primavera Musical cycle is an initiative of the Wind Bands Federation, ‘Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música’, which began in 2005 and has taken place annually at the Auditorio de Tenerife. Next year’s cycle is scheduled to start in March.
