Ópera en minúscula (small-format opera), in its second consecutive year of chamber-opera events, has scheduled La Plaza at the outdoor facilities of Espacio La Granja. This process of operatic creation has been constructed from the ground up through an artist residency. La Plaza involves radical creation for the transformation of chamber opera on a square stage surrounded by the public. It is an artistic residency that brings together different performing skills and disciplines, and it is a direct and immersive experience.
La Plaza is a platform that seeks to promote contemporary chamber opera in Spanish, to break down the barriers imposed by traditional concepts of performative areas and to provide the public with a close-up, raw and exciting experience.
The artists to perform this year are Dani Barcala, Ricardo Barrul, Anna Coll, Begoña Gómez, Ksenia Guinea and Miller Blanca Budiño. Through the disciplines of singing, performance, instrumental interpretation and composition, they will take a horizontal and collaborative approach to produce a single and site-specific piece designed for a non-conventional space.
La Plaza is more than just a production. It is a declaration of principles and a new approach to opera for emerging artists, alternative spaces and contemporary artistic language.

Dani Barcala, Ricardo Barrul, Blanca Budiño, Anna Coll, Begoña Gómez and Ksenia Guinea are the stars of this initiative to be presented in Alcalá de Henares by the group La Plaza for the second year of the Point-blank Opera Festival. Six artists embracing the disciplines of singing, performance, instrumental interpretation, and composition will work together to produce a single piece designed for a non-conventional space consisting of a square stage surrounded by the public on all four sides. This creative effort is to take place during an artist residency at Paco Rabal Cultural Centre. The group’s members comprise a platform that works to promote contemporary chamber opera in Spanish and to break down barriers imposed by traditional concepts of performative areas by offering the public a close-up, exciting experience free of restraints and solemnity. The group, which has returned this year with increased strength, greater risk and new voices, focuses on emerging artists, alternative spaces and contemporary artistic language.
After its strong start in Móstoles and Alcobendas, La Plaza is back with increased strength, greater risk and new voices. In this second year of the festival, the performances will take place in Alcalá de Henares, a forward-thinking town steeped in heritage that will host this new initiative of contemporary operatic creation constructed from the ground up.
