Synopsis

Auditorio de Tenerife presents as part of its Chamber Music Cycle Lamenti, a concert featuring mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé with Atenea Quartet and conductor Julian Reynolds.

When words fail to express the deepest feelings, music becomes the language of choice. With the Atenea Quartet, mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé will soar in a two-part recital devoted to the powerful emotions of Italian lamenti.

The concert opens with Baroque repertoire, showcasing works by Monteverdi, Scarlatti, and Vivaldi inspired by Greco-Roman myth: Arianna’s lament after Teseo abandons her, King Pharnaces’ upon believing that his own order has brought about his son’s death, and the tenderness of Perseus who resolves to save Andromeda from a sea monster.

Following the intermission, the program continues with classical pieces by Gluck, featuring the well-known lament of Orfeo over the loss of Euridice. Next are works reflecting symphonic Romanticism by Bellini and the bel canto of Rossini, including his cantata Giovanna d’Arco. The concert concludes with contemporary repertoire, highlighted by the final monologue that Jake Heggie composed for the Tony-awarded work Master Class.
