Les Ballets Espagnols de La Argentina
Synopsis
Auditorio de Tenerife presents Les Ballets de La Argentina. Juerga, Triana y suite de danzas, with art direction and choreography by Antonio Najarro and the accompaniment of Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife. The show is a coproduction of Juan March Foundation, the Auditorio de Tenerife, the theatres Teatro de la Zarzuela and Teatro de la Maestranza, the International Dance and Music Festival of Granada, and Palau de les Arts of Valencia.
Dancer Antonia Mercé ‘La Argentina’ returned to Paris in 1929, winning the hearts of its citizens anew. Through her Ballets Espagnols, she created a stage repertoire combining tradition and avant-garde, in close collaboration with renowned Spanish composers and plastic artists. Along with several dance numbers from the repertoire of ‘La Argentina’, this new project recovers Julián Bautista’s Juerga and Isaac Albéniz’s Triana, two emblematic works that premiered to great acclaim in 1929. For this production, Antonio Najarro has drawn inspiration from the original costume designs and stage scenery of Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre, among others. He has recreated the unique visual and musical aspects of both ballets, which are considered essential works in the configuration of a modern style of Spanish dance that seeks to be universal.
