The three weekend performances in the Auditorio de Tenerife theatre venue have sold out.

The Auditorio de Tenerife is hosting three performances of Hoy tengo algo que hacer this weekend. La Salita welcomes this production directed by Pablo Rosal and starring actor Luis Bermejo, with tickets already sold out. The first Friday session at 7.30 p.m. ends with a public talk moderated by students of the Canary Islands Actors School, in collaboration with the Auditorio de Tenerife. The Saturday performance starts at 7.30 p.m., and the Sunday performance is at 12 noon.

In this production by Teatro del Barrio, the work explores the misadventures of a modern-day hero. In classic fashion, he ventures from home to uncover the meaning of having a job—a source of structure and purpose. Far from being an anecdotal or elementary subject—or perhaps precisely because of this—we are struck by the rich potential of examining this absolutely mundane phenomenon.

All personalities are built on the basis of having something to do. The story of each person in relation to others is constructed on a foundation of the value and meaning we assign to ‘something to do,’ and, at an even more basic level, to ‘something to do’ itself. The days, weeks and years of our lives pass very slowly, imploring us to fill them; to give them structure and direction. We need to embrace ‘something to do’ to imbue our lives with meaning and substance.

Yet only clowns can take a light-hearted approach to this challenge. Clowns have foundational and inherent insubstantiality. They maintain a distance from any degree of certainty or assuredness. Their boundless curiosity and surprise allow us to participate in this research. This research aims to reveal honestly and unironically the motivations and occupations that shape the proud and tormented thing we call human life.

Tickets are now on sale for La Salita’s next offering: Equilibrium by Delio Island. The tickets can be purchased at a single price of €8 and €5 for audiences under 30 on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium’s box office, or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
