The Madrid-born opera communicator, known for his popular videos, will speak on ‘Behind the Seven Doors: Desire and Identity in Bluebeard’s Castle’

For the first time, the Auditorio de Tenerife welcomes Javi Alonso, who will present a talk on the upcoming opera in the season, El castillo de Barbazul (Bluebeard’s Castle). The opera and zarzuela specialist presents his lecture Detrás de las 7 puertas: deseo e identidad en el castillo de Barbazul (Behind the Seven Doors: Desire and Identity in Bluebeard’s Castle), on 8 April at 7:30 p.m. in the Chamber Hall. Tickets are five euros.

Javi Alonso will share key insights into Bartók’s work, which Pedro Chamizo stages in the Symphony Hall on 25 and 26 April with a contemporary approach.

Well-known for his engaging social media videos, the young Madrilenian is expanding his involvement with Ópera de Tenerife, with which he has collaborated over the last three seasons. His role in the upcoming lecture and the partnership aligns with his previous contributions of short content that introduces operatic plots, facts, and interviews to audiences.

His explanatory videos, interviews, and podcasts have given him a prominent voice in opera outreach, with over 24,000 followers on Instagram. With his fresh tone, accessibility and talent for connecting with new audiences and younger generations, he has become a prominent figure in Spain’s opera landscape, regularly promoting productions from Teatro de la Zarzuela, Les Arts València, Ópera de Tenerife and Teatro Cervantes in Málaga.

Since 2021, he has overseen the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra podcast. In it, he explains the symphonic repertoire for each concert. In recent years, he has also collaborated with institutions such as the Association of Friends of the Opera of Bilbao, the Quincena Musical de San Sebastián festival, the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico (National Classic Theatre Company), and the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival. Internationally, he worked with Christof Loy in 2023 to promote Loy’s new zarzuela company, Los Paladines, at Theatre Basel (Switzerland). He supported Marina Rebeka in 2022 by promoting a Norma recording for her record company, Prima Classic, and has collaborated with OperaVision since 2020, a European opera streaming platform.

He recently presented a live rebroadcast of Carmen from Madrid’s Royal Theatre, featuring Aigul Akhmetshina and Charles Castronovo, and the Nuevas Voces en el Teatro de la Maestranza competition. He has also interviewed leading opera figures in Spain and abroad, such as Alondra de la Parra, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Rossy de Palma, Eleonora Buratto, Xabier Anduaga, Emilio Sagi, Carlos Álvarez, Saioa Hernández, José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, Serena Sáenz, Juan Echanove, Ismael Jordi, and others. In November 2025, the publisher Paidós is scheduled to release his first book, Cantar la Historia, exploring 20th-century sociocultural history through notable musicals.
