Morning performances feature Unión y Amistad and Tegueste, with Las Candelas and El Sauzal appearing in the afternoon
The Auditorio de Tenerife welcomes a new day of its Primavera Musical cycle this Sunday (May 17), with a double bill of concerts scheduled for both morning and afternoon. The morning session, beginning at the usual 11.30 a.m., features Agrupación Cultural Unión y Amistad (Santa Cruz), followed by San Marcos (Tegueste). The afternoon programme starts at 6 p.m. with Las Candelas (Candelaria) and closes with Agrupación Musical San Pedro (El Sauzal). Entry is free until the total capacity is reached.
Opening the session in the Chamber Hall is Unión y Amistad. The Santa Cruz-based band, comprising 40 members and with a musical trajectory spanning more than three decades, performs under the baton of Iván Yeray Rodríguez. The repertoire includes The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber, arranged by Johan de Meij, and Mazatlán, arranged by the conductor himself and featuring Carmina Martín Dorta as soloist.
Closing the morning session is Agrupación Musical San Marcos Evangelista. Founded in 1989 and currently numbering 45 members, the Tegueste-based band performs under the direction of Mateu Ázaro González. At the Auditorio de Tenerife, they will play three pieces from their repertoire: Ross Roy by Jacob de Haan, L’entrá de la Murta by Salvador Giner, and The Blues Factory, again by Jacob de Haan.
The afternoon programme features two wind bands that were originally scheduled to appear in March but were cancelled due to storm Therese. At 6 p.m., Las Candelas will take to the Chamber Hall stage as the ensemble celebrates its 50th anniversary. Under the direction of Mauro Fariña, the band will perform Las Candelas by José Luis Peiró, Escenas de un amor de leyenda by Jonay Rodríguez, Moment for Morricone by Ennio Morricone (arr. Johan de Meij), Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral by Richard Wagner (arr. Lucien Cailliet), and The Great Rubber Chicken Group by Randall Standridge.
Closing this double bill of bands at the Auditorio de Tenerife is Agrupación Musical San Pedro (El Sauzal). Established in 1987, the wind band appears under the baton of Francisco Jairo Cabrera. The programme features Highlights from Exodus by Alfred Reed, The Witch and the Saint by Steven Reineke, and The Best by Tina Turner, arranged by Aitor Alonso, with Naomi Reverón as soloist.
Established in 2005, the concert cycle ‘Primavera Musical’ is an initiative by the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation in collaboration with the Tenerife Island Council. The next concert will be on 19th April, featuring performances by the wind bands Nivaria (Arafo), Arona and San Sebastián (Tejina, La Laguna).
