Tickets for the performance are sold out, while Saturday’s masterclass is open to the public until capacity is reached

This weekend, playwright Juan Mayorga comes to La Salita, the theatre venue at Auditorio de Tenerife, to offer a performance and a masterclass. The monologue La gran cacería (The Great Hunt) will be performed on Friday, 19 and Saturday, 20, at 7.30 p.m., with all tickets sold out. The lecture “El teatro frente al pasado” (Theatre in the Face of the Past) takes place on Saturday at 11 a.m., with free admission until capacity is reached.

The play La gran cacería, produced by Teatro del Barrio, is an inquiry by Mayorga, who also serves as stage director, educator, member of the Spanish Royal Academy, the art director of La Abadía Theatre, winner of the Spanish National Theatre Award and the Premio Princesa de Asturias literary award. The monologue opens on a night of insomnia, as a traveller returning across the Mediterranean from Sicily to the mainland finds his thoughts overtaken by images of La gran cacería, a Roman mosaic about a great hunt he discovered on the island.

The talk El teatro frente al pasado (Theatre in the Face of the Past) will explore different strands of the theatre of memory in the work of an author who has reflected on 15th-century Spain –La lengua en pedazos-, the Spanish Civil War –Siete hombres buenos, El jardín quemado, El hombre de oro-, Stalinism –Cartas de amor a Stalin– Nazism –El traductor de Blumemberg, Himmelweg, El cartógrafo–, and the Cold War –Reikiavik-. In La gran cacería, Mayorga proposes a reflection on European colonialism and on the Mediterranean as a space shaped by both culture and violence, yesterday and today.  This event, featuring the playwright as both actor and director, runs approximately 2 hours and includes a discussion with the audience.

La Salita’s next offering will be La jácara de los cuerpos imposibles, by Alberto Velasco, with performances on 26, 27 and 28 June. The tickets can be purchased at a single price of €8 and €5 for audiences under 30 on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium’s box office, or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
